Route March – Maida Vale to Ally Pally to Hackney
"Route March" - a long, difficult walk, especially one done by soldiers as part of their training.
Well OK you aren't soldiers, and this walk isn't that difficult but it will be fast.
Most GOC walks including mud, kissing gates, stiles, etc average about 2mph (3.5 klmph) which is just lovely. This will be more around 3.5-4mph and will be non-stop to Ally Pally (6 miles ish) for a view of London and toilet break, then almost non-stop to Hackney's Pembury Pub at the famed 5 road junction of Hackney. There will probably be a brief stop at an off license just after Ally Pally.
The route has almost no A roads, but is largely in quiet side streets of London.
This walk will not have a back marker, and if you wish to do it at at a more leisurely pace please do, noting the high level route descriped below if intersted - all easily viewed on Google maps.
After 1-2 hours at "The Pembo" I will be walking back to W9 before dark via Highbury and Islington, Pentonville Jail, Camden, lower Primrose Hill, Saint Johns Wood to W9 another 6.5 miles or so.
On all sections of the walk their are multiple tube and bus stops if you want to finish early.
The route description below is high level.
Section 1 - W9 to Ally Pally - 1.5 hours - 6 miles
Section 2 - Ally Pally to The Pembury - Hackney - 1.5 hours - 5.5 miles
