Reading Weekend: 11 to 14 April 2025
Welcome to a weekend away based in Reading and jointly run by the Berkshire Mid Thames (BMT) and Oxford Groups.
In May 2022 the West Wales Group kindly invited BMT and Oxford members to a weekend away based in the Gower peninsula. The Reading weekend was agreed in principle many months ago in conversations between Simon Scaddan the BMT Coordinator and Al Evans the West Wales Coordinator and the Reading weekend is the culmination of those discussions.
Any member of other GOC Groups who would like to join the weekend are of course most welcome.

Accommodation.
Please make your own accommodation arrangements. As car sharing may be an option some members may need I suggest that they base themselves in Reading where there are a wide a variety of hotels, Airbnbs, guest houses and hotels. Booking.com and other travel apps can provide details.
For those who have their own transport, one of our members David Woodward has an Airbnb in the village of Sonning about 3 miles outside Reading. airbnb.co.uk/h/sonning airbnb.co.uk/h/sonning2/ and airbnb.co.uk/h/sonning3/

Social
On Saturday evening at 7.30 pm we plan to have a communal meal together at Cote beside the Kennet canal in Reading town centre. Nearer the time of the weekend I will check how many members wish to attend. For details click here
Other opportunities to sit, eat and drink together will be available on every walk or NT Garden visit on each day.
Transport
A number of our walks are not readily accessible by public transport so if you do not have a car I encourage members to car share wherever this is possible.
The Oxford city visit on 11 April can be reached easily by train from Reading at a very reasonable price particularly if you have railcards. Check out the GWR website. For details click here.
