Tairgwaith/Gwaun Cae Gurwen – part of Gwynfe weekend/50th celebration
This walk starts a weekend of activities based around Gwynfe - part our 50th celebration.
There will be a social event at Gwynfe hall this evening and another walk at Carreg Cennen castle tomorrow.
See details of the social event below and click here for Sundays walk.
This is a little known but really interesting village.
The name is thought to be derived from Gwaun Cegerwen/white hemlock heath
There was a tinplate and ironworks in this region and a lot of collieries.
The moderate 7-8 mile walk includes a trotting track, still in use today, a waterfall and two impressive railway
viaducts, one of which was built but never used!!
Plus a few lovely old chapels and a view of the wind farm on Mynydd Y Bettws where we've walked before.
There are some steep sections with uneven ground which could be muddy.
Walking poles will be handy.
Great views over the surrounding Carmarthenshire countryside.
Full details are available to members only
