Lower “Kent Dale” and Lyth Valley Ramble
A lovely walk in the relatively lower lands of Cumbria, from almost sea level to 130 metres altitude, which allows extensive views of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Arnside-Silverdale National Landscape, and Morecambe Bay. The walk is centred on the lowers sections of both the valley of the River Kent, and the Lyth Valley. The route encompasses villages, ancient woodlands, and wetland nature reserves, as well as part of the route of the old Lancaster Canal, and River Kent where it narrows and deepens as it flows through Carboniferous limestone, where there are a number of waterfalls. We shall also pass Levens Hall, Sizergh Castle, and Helsington Church - just "what the doctor ordered" to blow away the late autumn cobwebs.
