Crosby Ravensworth Fell – flowering heather – and Village
The Orton Fells in Cumbria, are now part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and with good reason. This limestone upland area, has abundant limestone pavement, and other features of a limestone landscape, overtopped by acid glacial soil deposits that have dry heath habitats dominated by heather, which will be flowering at the time of the walk - almost overwhelmingly beautiful. In addition, the walk passes through the village of Crosby Ravensworth. From higher land, there are stunning views of the Lake Disrrict National Park. There are numerous archaeological features of various dates.
