Tring: Natural History Museum, Tring Park and Dancers End Reserve
I've managed to book 18 tickets for entrance at 11:00 am - free. If you wish to leave a donation on visit - this is entirely at your discretion.
A Winter event will be a Museum visit followed by a 7 mile walk in Tring Park and Dancers end Reserve which are all linked to the Rothschilds and are managed by Natural History, Wildlife Trust (founded by the Rothschilds), Forestry Commission and Woodland Trust.
A visit around the magnificent (weird and wonderful) Natural History Museum in Tring which holds one of the largest collections of specimens from the natural world which Walter Rothschild collected throughout his travels. Including the most intact 'Dodo' in the world along with many other curious items like fancy-dressed fleas and a quagga. All are housed in the original Victorian property with several galleries.
After the museum visit we will have a lunch on the green by the museum. Plenty of benches available. Anticipate the walk will commence between 1:00 pm to 1:15 and expect to be back in Tring before 4:00 pm.
We will then proceed into Tring Park and imagine Zebras, Cassowary's, Wallabies and Emus wandering the ground. You most likely see the resident cows who are used to people and dogs. This is the epicentre of the Giant Dormouses invasion of England - they escaped from their enclosure at the Rothschilds.
We will follow the Ridgeway Trail and Icknield Way along the ridge of the Chilterns toward a hidden valley with one of the largest chalk grasslands with a SSSI status.
On returning to Tring - an opportunity to visit a local (5 minute walk from museum)
WATER-WEATHER-WALKWEAR - be prepared
