The Elan Valley, Rhayader, Caban Coch Reservoir Circular Walk – part of the All Wales Weekend
This is a circular walk of about seven miles around Caban Coch Reservoir in the stunning Elan Valley starting and ending at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre, Rhayader.
The route has stunning views, open meadows, woodland and water-side paths. The first section to Nantgwyllt Church is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, a distance of about 1.4 miles. From here there is a short, but steep climb to join a path that follows the reservoir below, before dropping to its furthest point. After lunch at this point, at the far end of the reservoir, the walk returns on the other side of the reservoir. This path gradually climbs over a distance of about one and three quarter miles, before dropping down to join a path that hugs the edge of the reservoir back to the visitor centre.
Those not wanting to walk this section can simply follow the road back to Nantgwyllt Church after lunch and then retrace the route back to the visitor centre.
The route is on good surfaces through open meadows, woodland, and water-side paths.
