SOLENT – Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard
Our walk starts in the pretty village of Beaulieu before we proceed by strolling to the ancient shipbuilding hamlet of Bucklers Hard (still part of the Beaulieu estate) with its historic Georgian Houses going down to the River Beaulieu. It was here that fighting ships were built to serve in the Battle of Trafalgar. We then have a short Woodland Walk before returning back to Beaulieu. Attendees have the choice of visiting Beaulieu Palace House after the walk, home to Lord Montague who suffered as a 1950's victim being sent to prison for homosexual relations. It was this case that began the long road to the 1967 change of law for the benefit of all. The entrance charge is £28. Our walk leader also kindly invites everyone back to his house in Hightown near Ringwood for afternoon tea.
