Graig Allt-Y-Bont, Rhayader – circular walk – part of the All Wales weekend
This walk starts in the centre of Rhayader.
We walk through the churchyard, and onto The Wye valley way, a walking trail.
This is mainly on a quiet lane and farm track at the beginning heading towards the Afon Elan just before it joins the River Wye.
Here we are faced with a wooden swaying suspension bridge, called The Glyn bridge
***We will allow anyone wanting to walk over in single file by themselves. The bridge is quite sturdy when only one person is negotiating it.
We then join a lane before the quite steep ascent up onto Graig Allt - Y - Bont starts.
At first the path is narrow and stony and covered in leaves so care needed - see photo.
Then on a more grassy track but still quite steeply up, with bracken on either side.
The climb is about 200 metres.
At the top it opens out onto moorland with lots of heather and easy walking on a track.
We follow the track for a while and then descend, through a field and onto another track through a farmyard.
A short walk on a quiet lane brings us to the cycle path, which we will follow for about a mile back to Rhayader.
