Pontarddulais
This month the West Wales group celebrates it's 15th Birthday.
Come and join us on this lovely walk and Sunday lunch is planned for later this month as an indoor
celebration.Further details asap.
This will now be at The Plough as our Christmas meal there had to be cancelled due to the storm.
This a 7 mile walk and I may change the route if the weather is very bad, as we will be on exposed hills.
- see also below. If this happens I will let everyone know in good time as the starting place will change.
We will start near the stone that marks the Rebecca riots, where the Bolgoed toll gate was destroyed.
We will proceed on a lovely green path between houses before a short sharp incline takes us to a green path still
climbing, with fabulous views, down a green valley and over to the Loughor estuary.
We will see a lot of past industry, in particular where coal mining took place in various mines in this area including
the well known Graig Merthyr.
We gradually make our way to a high point at Maggie's Twr, another great viewpoint before descending down to the
valley floor and walk along where more coal mines previously existed.
So there are ups and downs on wet and muddy ground but with lots of easy walking too, with some on a quiet country
road.
The weather and wind direction might influence which way around I lead this walk, as we will be on exposed ground
at some points in the walk. Please wear warm clothes and waterproof footwear.
I am hoping there will be refreshments available in a cafe in Hendy a 2 minute drive away at the end of the walk.
***As we will be on exposed ground for quite a bit of this walk, if the weather should be very wet and cold I will lead a
lower level 6-7 mile linear walk from Pontarddulais to Loughor. If this is going to happen I will update everyone during
the lead up, to the week of the walk.
