A weekend based in one of the Lake District's most remote and tranquil hostels

Join us for a weekend at this remote youth hostel in the Lake District. The only access is on foot from the Buttermere valley over the Scarth gap pass. We will have sole use of the hostel, so all 16 beds will be ours. There are excellent walking opportunities from the hostel, Great Gable (899m), Kirk Fell (802m) and Pillar (892m) all being on the doorstep. If you are going to stay in one youth hostel this year, then make it this one, it really is too good to miss!!

Although the hostel facilities are basic, there is a warden onsite and we have booked evening meals for Friday and Saturday, plus breafast for Saturday and Sunday (this has only added £16.50 per person to the price we would have paid just for a bed).  Also it means there will be no need to carry great amounts of food with you. 

Early booking is recommended it you want to reserve a place. Booking is easy using the booking option on this page of the website. The cost for half board is £81 for the two nights.

Arrive on the Friday evening for the hostel meal, which is served at 7pm. There will be a longish walk on the Saturday, and we all expect to eat together at the hostel in the evening (again, we will need to book this with the hostel).  A shorter walk will be arranged for the Sunday allowing a finish by mid-afternoon for those who have to travel.

There is cooking equipment and bedding is provided, but you will need to bring your own towel.  There are no credit card facilities on site so please bring cash or a cheque. There are no electric sockets and mobile phone coverage is limited. The bedrooms, shower and toilets are all accessed from outside, so please bring a torch.  There are no pre-allocated single sex dorms, so please be aware that men and women may need to share.
