The route from Bowes takes us to where the 2 Pennine Way  routes  join up together again at Trough Heads, before climbing up Tan Hill through Sleightholme Moor. Wainwright described the walk as like 'walking through porridge.'

Tan Hill Pub is the epitome of lonely moor pub and one of sights of Pennine Way.

We descend over Stonesdale Moor to Keld in Swalesdale, a favourite dale of many.

Today is a landmark day, some say Tan Hill is Pennine Way half way mark, we cross from Co Durham to Yorkshire, from the North Pennines ANO into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, our 3rd National Park. Keld is the crossing point of Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk and the Pennine Way. Wainwright in his Coast to Coast guide tells his walkers to sympathise with Pennine Way walkers.
