Edith Nesbit Literary Trail
The half-sister of the author Edith Nesbit lived with her husband in a cottage high above Strines. Part of the inspiration for Edith's famous novel The Railway Children is believed to have come from some of the places she got to know during stays with her sister.
This scenic 7.2 mile walk includes some of the points of interest that are thought to have provided her with this inspiration.
Our route will include the pretty village of Brook Bottom, The River Goyt, Marple 'Roman Lakes', the site of Samuel Oldknow's Mellor Mill (recently excavated) & the Peak Forest Canal.
Equipment: walking boots, waterproof clothing, trekking pole (if normally used), warm clothing.
