This walk is part of the All Wales Weekend and is open to all members and visitors as well as those attending the weekend event.  There are two walk options: a slower-paced moderate five-mile walk and a quicker-paced, more strenuous nine-mile walk.

Both versions start from the same place and follow Llyn (Lake) Padarn, on a moderate clockwise circular walk, giving beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.  The first half of the walk, to the end of Llyn Padarn, is on a flat route on cycle ways and hard surfaces.  From here the route climbs steadily, but only for about a kilometre, before dropping through a pretty wood to a slate bridge over a beautiful waterfall.

At this point, the walk splits.  Paul will take those doing the slower-paced moderate walk on to the National Slate Museum and Vivian Quarry through the wood (with a couple of short climbs) past the Dinorwic Quarry Hospital.  There will then be an opportunity to view the remains of Vivian Quarry and the workshops before heading back to Llanberis for tea and cake; a total distance of about five miles.

Alan, however, will take those doing the more strenuous route up and through Dinorwic Quarry, on a further four mile route.  There is a strenuous climb from the waterfall up to a higher path, which will take about ten minutes, and then a more gradual climb out of the woods to the quarry.   The route then follows a level path, on hard ground, right through the heart of the abandoned and immense quarry, and then zig-zags down to Llyn Peris,  around the lake, and back along the road into Llanberis on a pavement.  The quarry, once the world's largest slate quarry,  is a superb walk, offering breathtaking and unforgettable views, including the dramatic Llanberis Pass and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), and at the end of the lake, one of the classic views of Eryri (Snowdonia) opens up towards the Llanberis Pass.  A total of 9 miles.

There is another option : taking the local Sherpa bus or a taxi to Dinorwic Bus Terminus at the entrance to the quarry, two hours or so after the walkers have left, and just doing the last four miles through the quarry.
