Dinefwr park and castle and Tregeyb wood, Llandeilo – bluebell walk
This is a 6 - 7 mile mainly easy walk though there are some ups and downs on uneven ground through woodlands..
Starting from the centre of Llandeilo we will walk along the main street and pick up a lovely (new) green path bringing us to a walk-in entrance to Dinefwr park.
There are 2 stiles on this bit, not dog friendly.
We will do a different route in the park than we've done before, walking in an anti-clockwise direction past Newton house and coming to
the castle towards the end.
This parkland is very beautiful with deer and white park cattle in the grounds and the bluebells should be in full flower.
Depending on time, we will have our lunch in the castle grounds or walk into Penlan park.
The path from castle woods to Penlan park is quite narrow so care needed, but not vertiginous.
We will then make our way back to Llandeilo town centre and walk down to the banks of the River Towy crossing the very shaky
suspension bridge.
On the other side, the walk continues beside the river to the very pretty but little known Tregeyb wood, another beautiful bluebell wood,
which we will explore before ending the walk back in the centre of Llandeilo, where refreshments will be available in a local hostelry.
There is a bench in the wood dedicated to former member and dear friend Henry Lewis so we will fondly remember him as we pass by--see photo.
The inscription "Touching the Tywi" relates to a song that was sung at Henry's funeral, with the words and lyrics being written by Henry.
