Cycle to the west of Canterbury
Terrain:
This will be a predominantly ridden on country lanes. However, we do need to cross Canterbury to start the ride, which is always busy. We will take advantage of about three miles of good quality cyclepath which take us out of Canterbury. The coastal stretch around Whitstable will also be busy as it is a magnet for day trippers. Whilst not flat, there are no challenging hills.
Sights:
Attractive riverside cyclepath along Great Stour
Charming village of Chilham, often used for period costume TV dramas
Valleys and rolling hills of North Downs
Market town of Faversham with its creek and former trading Thames Barges
Coastal road to Whitstable, which is famous for its oysters and fishing harbour.
If time, weather and sea temperatures permit we can have a sea swim in Whitstable. So if you are inclined bring your skimpy speedos.
