11 Jul 2026: Cheshunt to Tottenham Hale linear
This is a 10 mile linear walk following the course of the River Lea from Cheshunt to Tottenham Hale.
The route is mainly the towpath of the River Lea Navigation, occasionally parallel to the River Lee. Given that the route is on hard standing, flat and follows a river the pace will be briser than normal.
The route is southbound in early summer, so – weather permitting – we shall face the sun throughout the route. Features include sights & glimpses of:
- The Lee Valley Regional Park (history);
- A continuous change of environment, from suburban to densely urban, from water meadows to industrial sites;
- Rammey Marsh, near Enfield Lock;
- Enfield Island Village;
- Enfield power station (wiki);
- King George V reservoir and William Girling Reservoir;
- Lee Valley golf course;
- Deephams Sewage Treatment Works (!!) (engineering case study 2018);
- walking under the concrete craziness of the A406 North Circular Road;
- Banbury Reservoir, Tottenham Marshes, Lockwood Reservoir, the Walthamstow Wetlands (Low and High Maynard Reservoirs);
- Tottenham Lock.
Bring packed lunch, lots of water and something to sit on.
Wear good trainers.
Route is wholly exposed. Wear suitable summer clothing, sunglasses, head covering and sun-protection.
Optional pub stop at the end of the walk.
Start point is accessible by public transport.
This event is also advertised on Meetup.com.
