Autumn in the Gade Valley
Please meet for 10:45 am for 11:00 am start.
This circular walk from Hemel Hempstead explores the countryside to the east of the town, skirting the edge of the Chilterns Hills. The walk will start at Gadebridge Park it is a simple loop around the surrounding countryside, taking in open arable farmland with extensive views and the various old mills and houses along the pretty River Gade. The route explores the stunning surrounding Hertfordshire countryside, discovering the picturesque and historic Gaddesden Estate and a stretch of the Chiltern Way. You will enjoy peaceful tracks leading you between rolling fields and pockets of mixed woodland with expansive views throughout.
Towards the tail end of the walk you will enjoy the waterside paths along the Grand Union Canal by passing Hemel Hempstead station at the 8.5 mile marker; for anyone who has travelled by train and wishes to peel off at this point, we should be there between 15:30 and 16:00. We then return to Gadebridge Park via Boxmoor to St Mary’s Church with its spire dominating the skyline. Optional pub stop at the end of the walk would be the Olde Kings Arms. Original starting point is a few minutes away from St Marys .
