Event Details

***THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL

This is an hour long train ride (each way) on the famous Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway.

The delightful train takes an elevated, very scenic route from Abersytwyth to Devil's Bridge along the side of a wide lush green valley with many impressive vistas.

On arrival at Devil's bridge there will be an optional 3.5 mile walk se below.

Whether you join the walk or not everyone will be able to visit the Devils Bridge Falls where the river drops 90 metres to meet the River Rheidol. A map of the walks available in the falls is here.

You can follow a path (there is a small charge) from the bridges right up to the falls and through the surrounding woodland. ***Please note you need 4 x £1 coins if you want to go under the bridge to put in each of the turnstiles.

The three bridges are a quite spectacular sight being stacked on top of each other - see photo's above.

We then return by train to Aberystwyth.

you can access the website here where you can see details.

***The timetable for 2024 will be available in January, so timings will be confirmed then, and people will then be able to get their tickets

in advance, in due course.

***Timetable now available here

There is also an interesting newsletter online giving information about the Railway and the work that's been going on, in Aberystwyth and on the line, click here.

NB: Optional walk

When we alight from the train in Devil's Bridge there will be a 3.5 mile approx. optional walk for those who want to join in.

See 2, below for meeting info.

The walk will start on the Cambrian Way through fields, then a short stretch on a quiet lane before we ascend on greenery to almost the top of Felin-wynt a hill, where views over distant mountains are stunning, plus we will see Llyn Frongoch, a beautiful fishing lake.

We circle the hill on a path slightly lower than the top and then descend on a track eventually coming to the Dragon's lair nature reserve, no dragons to be seen when I did the recce!!

We then enter Coed Y Bobl, a lovely woodland and then back on the path we started out on.

**We will stop for lunch on route, so bring food and drink, or alternatively have a late lunch at cafes in Devil's bridge at end of walk.
