March of the mediævals ! Dunstable Downs/Totternhoe
This is a figure of eight walk with numerous facts - geological, mediæval and roman. Additionally, a few unknown/forgotten facts from recent history.
The first part of walk is approx. 5.5 miles to Totternhoe via the Downs which a ascent/descent is the greatest.
The second part of walk is approx 3 miles along the ridge via Whipsnade.
Bring packed lunch, drinking water and something to sit on. A cafe is available at lunchtime, but we recommend no reliance on it.
This walk will be exposed in areas and it is imperative to have good weatherproof clothing/footwear. Muddy in places. Wear sturdy boots.
The reason for figure of eight walk gives an opportunity to leave your lunch in vehicle or visit the Cafe.
Any one coming from London; Bedford and Milton Keynes whom have no transport can be collected at either Luton Airport Parkway (Thameslink) or Leighton Buzzard (London North Western) - please check travel section for further details.
Optional pub stop on second part of walk near end. There is no pub stop at the end of the walk.
