New England eat your heart out! Autumn is a great time to visit Stourhead as the trees begin to turn and put on their wonderful display of yellows, orange and crimson. It is one of the best places to see this annual show as the season changes.
The man-made garden vistas at the National Trust’s Stourhead Garden in Wiltshire are, quite rightly, world famous in terms of their design and historic importance. It also has a fine house with many interesting features.
There is a wonderful selection of garden structures including Classical temples, Temple of Flora, Temple of Appollo plus a rock bridge and cascade, all of which are situated around the tranquil lake. The view from the temple of Appollo has been described as one of the most picturesque scenes in the world.
You can also visit Stourhead House, a Palladian mansion with a fantastic regency library and beautiful art collection.
The garden gets very busy, especially at weekends, at this time of year, so we have chosen a Monday in the hope that will be quieter.
There will be the option of having food onsite at the end of the walk or bring your own.
Dogs (on leads) welcome. Admission £19 – free for National Trust members.
