Our 3rd annual weekend away took place in the Lizard, Cornwall with 10 attendees including 2 new visitors Stephen and Stephen from Bristol A change of location which gave us the experience of a whole new landscape. A long Friday drive was rewarded by a 5 mile estuary walk around the Southern edge of the River Helford with fine views. At the end of the walk we retired to the picturesque Shipwrights Arms and ate in the garden overlooking the River with its yachts and holiday homes.
A full day’s programme was arranged for Saturday. Starting with a 6 mile Coastal circular walk and the highlight being Prussia Cove with fine views, we drove to nearby St Michaels Mount but with the tide in, we were unable to cross to the island but at least we saw it! We then drove onto Penzance to explore and have a late afternoon lunch. Yet another 8 miles drive took us to the world famous Minack Theatre set on and into the cliff top edge. The sell-out performance of the Cornish Proms received a deserved standing ovation and culminated in a grand fireworks display.
Sunday took as to the touristy Kynack Cove and onto Lizard Point – the most southerly point in the UK. Startingly blue azure seas made us think of the Mediteranean. The evening was our regular get together in one of our Caravans where we enjoyed fine dining and wine and great conversation
Monday, our last day, we drove just north of Falmouth to Mylor for yet another Coastal and Estuary walk which included a farewell drink at the Pandora Inn named by the ships captain of the Pandora which was the ship sent to Tahiti to find the famous Bounty mutineers
We were blessed by fine weather throughout the weekend, a good choice of eateries and some great walking. All attendees said how much they enjoyed the weekend and insisted on another trip away being arranged for 2025. Thanks to Laurence for the photos.
