Gardens: Walk/talk & lunch at Clyne Gardens, Swansea.

We warmly greeted each other as we gathered on this sunny morning in Clyne Garden’s beautiful surroundings. We were looking forward to this guided tour by Teifion, the well-respected Head Gardener there for the past 38 years.  We welcomed some new members, who joined us for the first time. The tour exceeded expectations.

Soon we were off and over the next 90 minutes or so heard the stories of how plants that we see today as common garden plants, reached our shores. As we walked around, stopping beside relevant specimens, we learnt about expeditions led by Joseph Banks to Australia, David Douglas to America, Ernest Wilson to China, and others.

The talk was pitched at a level to suit those with a passing interest in plants and those with a more in-depth knowledge of the topic.

All too soon, the walk was at an end and most of us adjourned to a nearby pub for lunch and a well deserved sit down. We relaxed in each other’s company, talking about the tour, which seemed to have gone down well. We were also joined briefly by the GOC Chair, Jim Cornwell – a pleasant surprise.

Some of us then took a stroll along the seafront to Mumbles, where Joes ice cream was relished before we departed. It was a lovely day, where happy memories were made.

Looking forward to many more such events.
