A lovely start to the day was a visit to Brecon Cathedral, where we also enjoyed a very tasty lunch in their cafe. We looked around the very interesting Cathedral and watched a procession of clergy as an ordination service got underway.
Then a short drive to Alan’s and Mark’s lovely garden, where we were warmly greeted by our hosts and their friends. We enjoyed exploring their wonderful creation to the backdrop of live music being played by one of their friends, who even serenaded our Colin!
The views from the garden, that surrounded their converted barn, were stunning, with Pen y Fan and other Bannau Brycheiniog peaks clearly visible. A profusion of climbing roses, clematis and other climbers adorned walls, pergolas and other structures. A range of interesting shrubs and perennials completed the display, which lots of water features and natural stone walls and paths adding even more interest. Their wildflower meadow was really colourful, and their hilltop stone circle was also a highlight, again offering lovely views.
It was then on to the inevitable refreshments, served by a bevy of very friendly ladies. Delicious home-made treats were soon devoured, with many of us returning for seconds. We spent a long time sitting on the patio, chatting and enjoying each other’s company, before finally saying our goodbyes. Plans were discussed to meet again at future events.
A big thank you to our hosts for opening up and allowing us have such a wonderful afternoon.
