Dorset Group 29Dec24: Corfe Castle’s Woods, Downs, Common and Railway.

18 members and 2 dogs met near Harmans Cross Station for our New Year Walk. We walked up Haycraft lane for about 500 yards and then turned left towards Swanage on the footpath which leads to Quarr Farm. At the farm turning left down the hill and crossing the Swanage Railway level crossing. Proceeding across the fields to Ailwood farm at the bottom of Nine Barrow Down. Turning west at this point towards Corfe Castle. We stayed on the lower path for a while before climbing the hill to Rollington Hill to see the fantastic views to the right of Poole Harbour and beyond in the mist and to the left Corfe Castle in the valley. Finally descending to Corfe Castle village for our lunch stop. After lunch on our return back walking across Corfe Common to the railway which we followed along the fields back to our cars.

16 then came to the leader’s home for a New Year Tea.
