On a cloudy but dry morning our band of 13 set off through the grounds of Cerne Abbey to climb Giants Hill. A stroll along the wooded ridge with pleasant views down into the Minterne Valley and a steep downland descent brought us to the hamlet of Minterne Magna, where we were joined by a further group of 3.
We spent an enjoyable 2 hours exploring the extensive 27 acres of the himalayan gardens of Minterne House followed by refeshments on the terrace tea room.
Our return led us up to the ridge opposite the house, through pretty woods and down to the picturesque hamlet of Up Cerne before finally enjoying commanding views of the Cerne Abbas Giant. We completed a very enjoyable day with a pint at the Giants Inn pub.
