On an overcast morning 13 members plus 2 potential new members met up in the Swan Inn car park. We proceeded through picturesque Abbotsbury village to climb the steep hill up to the South Dorset Ridgeway. During the climb we passed Jubilee coppice to find splendid views of Chesil Beach and St Catherine’s Chapel.
At the top once recovered from the climb we continued west along the ridge on top of Wears Hill to the tumulus for our coffee break. When reaching Abbotsbury Castle we started descending towards the coast passing East Bexington Farm and finally reaching Burton Road which runs along the coast which is part of the South West Coast Path.
Having lunched on Chesil Beach we ambled east along the coast path passing Abbotsbury Gardens to the base of Chapel Hill and back to the Swan Inn for well earned drink; after which we were treated to a delicious cream tea by Andrew a member of the team in his beautiful cottage garden nearby.
