Christmas at Tyntesfield Manor near Bristol

As we assembled at the entrance, the predicted crowds (thanks Bill for the heads up) did come in droves and there was a great buzz of anticipation of an exciting day ahead. It was lovely to meet everyone and welcome one new member, who was on his first GOC event.

We agreed our plan for the day - most of us made our way to look at the house, whilst a few did the grounds first and kept the delights of the house until later.

And what a delight it was! As we progressed, admiring the fine furniture and ornate fittings, the neo-Gothic House looked splendid as many of the rooms were bedecked with fine Christmas trees, tastefully decorated and creating a very festive atmosphere. Professional actors, volunteers and staff were dressed in Victorian attire and engaging with the visitors. One of the characters enquired which of us had over imbibed in the sherry last night and ended up sleeping under the billiard table! Needless to say, we named and shamed the culprit - you know who you are!

A pianist was playing in the foyer, and a Choir joined him to sing festive tunes. It was magical and really captured the festive spirit.

Our house tour ended in the Chapel, modelled on the flamboyant Gothic Sainte Chapelle in Paris.

We reassembled for lunch adjacent to the walled garden where we chatted about what we had seen, easy in each other's company and enjoying the comradery and gentle banter.

Our appetites sated, we then did a stroll around the walled garden, greenhouses and grounds, finally making our way back towards the house. We stopped and enjoyed listening to a Rock Choir performing outside the house, keeping us in the festive spirit.

Lovely to see people of all ages enjoyed themselves and making memories.

All too soon it was time to say our goodbyes and wend our way home, but with the feeling of having had a most enjoyable time in each other's company.  I for one am looking forward to many more such trips on 2024.

Many thanks to Bill for some of the photos.
