Some of you may know me already as Coordinator of the GOC Online Group, as GOC's social media lead for Twitter & Facebook, or as a member of 10 years or more in the GOC London Group. Last month I joined the GOC Committee as Website & IT manager as well, after the role had been vacant for some time.
So thank you for your patience with the website over recent months, and please do now let me know of any feedback and suggestions for the website and for GOC's use of IT more broadly. I plan to draft a survey over the coming weeks to circulate by mailshot to all members in the New Year, but in the meantime I thought I'd use this news post let you all know how I have started and what I have planned already.
On the website at Governance & Committee members you can find links to my role description and 2022-23 workplan that were approved by the Board last month, and to my member profile - you can message me via the website there, or email me at [email protected].
I have established a good working relationship with my predecessor Owen Morris, who developed the website for GOC a few years ago and who is continuing to provide technical support on a contract basis. We have established a task management system to track every update, fix or improvement that is requested or suggested, so that hopefully none will fall through the cracks. We have started with the feedback and suggestions gathered by Andy Fisher and others of the Website User Group, and at the RAP session with Group Coordinators in Stirling this summer. I hope you may have noticed some small updates and improvements to the website already, but we are relying on members to let us know what else is needed - please do not be shy!
I shall be able to make quick and easy updates and fixes myself, usually within a day or two. I am not a web developer, but I do have experience of managing Wordpress websites for my own freelance business and for a number of other charities and projects that I have been involved in. For other tasks that are less quick and easy, but which should clearly be done, I hope that I can get them done with Owen's help within a week or so, or more quickly if urgent. For larger or longer-term developments, such as a thorough design refresh of the look and feel of the website next year, we'll gather all feedback and suggestions to review together when it comes to consider what to do and how. To help with that, I shall welcome volunteers from among the membership to join the Website User Group - please do let me know if you may be interested, or if you have website & IT expertise yourself to share.
Please let me know also if you have any questions about GOC's website & IT, or if you could use some support just to know how to use the website or where to find something.
Please also join me and other members at the fortnightly Zoom Socials of the Online Group, and do let me know if I can be of any help in hosting online events of your own with other members - see also How to use Zoom and Wonder.
I look forward to hearing from you!
