Wincle
This is the third of Hugh's 5-6 mile Wincle Trilogy, each in a different geographical direction from the Ship Inn at Wincle (November 2023 to the South West, May 2024 to the North and this one to the East). There is no overlap apart from the Ship Inn at the beginning and end. This walk goes up and down, sometimes bumpy with a stony path, sometimes simply flat but with stunning views. Part of it is along the Dane Valley Way with gurgling river, impressive trees and magical cliffs. Occasionally steep climbs but not for long. Features are Lud's Church-a natural gorge, the incredible Hanging Stone and tickling the edge of the scenic Roaches. Inquisitive sheep protective of their newly born lambs, munching cows (not many) and larks ascending add interest to this varied beautiful walk. Could be a trifle muddy depending on the timing of the latest rainstorm.
