We return to Mercure Hotel, Newport, for this year's Christmas social.   Three course festive lunch served in the hotel restaurant on the third floor.

STARTERS:

Ardennes pâté served with caramelised red onion chutney

Roast carrot & butternut squash soup (ve)

MAIN COURSES:

Roast breast of turkey, sage and cranberry stuffing, chipolata

Cumin, butternut squash and lentil wellington (a blend of cumin-spiced squash and lentils wrapped in golden pastry (ve))

• both served with roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, brussels sprouts and gravy.

DESSERTS:

Chocolate truffle torte served with stewed kumquats and chantilly cream (v)

Traditional Christmas pudding served with warm brandy sauce (ve)
