Scotland Gardens Abbotsford walled Garden appreciation Melrose

Event Details

On Wed 10 June we will visit Abbotsford near Melrose, Scottish Borders, the former country home of renowned environmentalist and literary writer Sir Walter Scott.

In the morning we will explore and appreciate the flora and fauna found within the 3 walled garden "rooms" designed by Scott himself.

There will also be the opportunity of a self guided tour of the house for history and lifestyle interests.

The landscaped estate offers viewpoints across the 120 acres of parkland and woodland as well as  riverbanks of the River Tweed.

We will enjoy shared lunch at a suitable spot in the estate grounds so bring a pad to sit on.

The second part of the day, for those who want to stretch their legs, can join a walk in and beyond the estate, then back to their chosen transport options.

Entry to the garden is £8.60 if booked online at least one day prior. Entry to the house incurs further charge and will be timed entry. Consult with the organiser if you wish to take this up to avoid timing conflicts.

Abbotsford is wheelchair accessible (tho not the afternoon walk) and dog friendly.

Contact the organiser BEFORE the day of the event to communicate your attendance confirming ticket purchase and expression of interest in walking after the garden visit. Thank you.
