Ride to the Radar
A 74-mile joint ride with Out Velo taking in Scotland’s highest village and a bonus climb to Scotland’s highest tarmac road. Starting in the upper Clyde valley, we’ll head up into the Lowther Hills through the villages of Leadhills and Wanlockhead, from where there is an option to cycle up onto Lowther Hill (725m) and Green Lowther (732m). These hills are fully accessible via a tarmac road and adorned by a golf-ball like radar station, radio mast and other scientific furniture. We’ll then descend into upper Nithsdale before returning to Carstairs (or possibly Lanark depending on timing and availability of return trains) via Crawfordjohn. A map of the proposed route can be found here.
