Early Autumn Stroll: The Dee Estuary & Historic Parkgate
Join us for a scenic walk through the dramatic tidal landscape of the Dee Estuary. We begin near the historic "lost port" of Parkgate, heading toward Little Neston along freshly designated sections of the King Charles III England Coast Path.
The Route Highlights
- Heritage & History: We’ll pass the iconic Harp Inn and pause to remember the local coal miners who worked the seams deep beneath the Dee until the late 19th century.
- Wildlife & Wilderness: At Burton Point, we’ll overlook the vast Burton Mere Wetlands. Keep your binoculars ready; many bird species share these reeds and grasslands with the (occasional) distant echoes of military exercises.
- Village Charm: A brief inland detour offers (if we have time) a glimpse of the picturesque village of Burton. We’ll also stop for a break at Ness Gardens, where you can enjoy a coffee or lunch stop under the famous laburnum arch (free access area).
- The Finish Line: We return to the coast to make our way back into Parkgate. Celebrate the day with a farewell pint or coffee at the Old Quay, or treat yourself at one of the village's famous ice cream vendors.
