Northampton Urban walk via Hunsbury Hill Fort – 6.5mi
We will start the walk at the entrance of Delapre Abbey (site of Battle of Northampton during the war of Roses). We will then walk up London Road to the Queen Eleanor Cross. Our next stop will be Hunsbury Hill Park with the remains of an Iron Age hill fort. This park is quite packed with old and reasonably new features like a disused railway and vents for the Northampton loop going underneath it.
After a stroll in this park, we will continue our route through Northampton with different options depending on the weather. In all cases we will reach the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal, and walk alongside to see some famous landmarks in the town like the Lift Tower (visisble from miles away), Carlberg Brewery and some more. We will then leave the canal to rejoin London Road and Delapre Abbey with the option for a cuppa and a cake at the Orangery.
