Loch Katrine Steamers Coach Trip
An excursion to Loch Katrine by coach and a trip by passenger steamer to Stronachlachar on Loch Katrine
Loch Katrine is a freshwater loch in the Trossachs, in what is now the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Work started in the 1880s to raise the level of the loch by 6ft by the construction of a dam and aqueducts supplying drinking water to Glasgow 35 miles away.
Loch Katrine is the fictional setting of Sir Walter Scott's poem The Lady of the Lake and of the subsequent opera by Gioachino Rossini, La donna del lago.
We will take a chartered coach at the university for the one hour journey to Loch Katrine, where we will board one of the Loch Katrine passenger boats for a cruise from the Trossachs Pier to the small village of Stronachlachar. We will have approximately 5 hours available at Stronachlachar where we can take a walk and picnic on the loch shore. There is also a café for refreshments at Stronachlachar.
We will board the return steamer at 16:20 for the return trip to Trossachs Pier and the coach back to the University, arriving back at the university at about 18:15.
The cost of the trip inclusive of travel by coach and your tickets for the boat trip is £30.00. Please note that food and drink is not included in the price.
