First we retrace our steps back to the Pennine Way on the banks of the Tees.

We then walk the Tees past the waterfalls of High Force and Low Force towards Middleton in Teesdale

We take a sharp right without going into Middleton in Teesdale through a mix of open moorland and fields up Harter Fell before decending into Lunedale, over Kelton Bottom and down in Baldersdale, through Hannah's (Hauxwell) Meadow Nature Reserve.

Hannah Hauxwell lived alone as a subsistance organic farmer. She became an unexpected tv star after tv programme series, first about her farm life and later her travelling in dismay visiting the world's famous cities.

We then take the 'alternative' Bowes Loop route mainly through undulating open moorland including what Wainwright described as 'the ugliest mile on the Pennine Way'. He later relented a bit to say even the ugliest is loved by someone. Hope for us all.
