Starting high on the Downs at Butts Brow, we will head over Combe Hill before descending into Jevington. Our proposed route continues into Friston Forest, where woodland paths provide a contrast to the open hills and a sheltered setting for a break.

We will then head towards Friston before returning via Dencher and Willingdon Hill to Butts Brow. There will be opportunities to enjoy the surrounding countryside, take photographs and chat along the way, with a stop for a packed lunch.

The route follows a mixture of downland tracks, woodland paths and uneven ground. Expect some sustained uphill sections and potentially muddy or slippery conditions.

Remembrance at the Ruthless Memorial
After the walk, participants are welcome to join the annual service remembering the American crew of the USAAF Liberator bomber Ruth-Less, which crashed on the Downs above Willingdon on 2 February 1944.

The memorial offers a poignant place to pause and reflect within the landscape we have explored together.  Attendance is optional.

Wear clothes appropriate for the weather and terrain. Dogs are welcome if kept on leads whenever near livestock, on roads or if requested by the walk leader. New members are always welcome. There is a free no commitment four month trial - see https://www.goc.org.uk/shop/membership/. Any enquiries contact [email protected].
