Heart of the Gower Peninsula and Rhossili Down
The highlight of this walk will be visiting the highest point on the Gower Peninsula on top of Rhossili Down. The steady climb to the trig point will reward us with (weather permitting) 360 degree views of the Peninsula (the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Worms Head, the Bristol Channel, West Wales and the Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly known as The Brecon Beacons).
En route we will see the 800 year old St David’s Church, Llandewi (if no service going on we can go inside) located in a rustic farmyard. Whilst we will follow short bits of the Gower Way and the Gower Pilgrimage Way, much of our nine-mile route will be on lesser known paths and pass a number of isolated abandoned homesteads, a WWII radar station and the site of an old woollen mill, now a private house. We should see some bluebells and other spring flowers.
Dogs (on leads near animals) welcome but there are several stiles along the way, some rickety.
Attendees are invited for light refreshments at the organiser’s nearby home following the walk. Non walking partners/friends welcome to come just for the refreshments.
