Gardens/Solent - Guided tour of renowned Winter Garden at Hillier Gardens near Southampton
We have been offered a tour of this garden by an employee (also a very recently joined GOC member) who is giving up his time for free to show us around.
With 180 acres of gardens, Sir Harold Hillier Gardens is world famous for it's colour and interest throughout the year. The Winter Garden contains more than 650 different plants grown for a winter effect between November and March. Extended a couple of years ago, it now covers around four acres in total, making it one of the largest winter gardens in Europe.
Marvel at hellebores, white-stemmed birches; red, orange and yellow dogwoods; mahogany tones of Tibetan cherries and the cinnamon-toned snake-bark maples. Strong scents of a range of winter flowering shrubs also tickle the nostrils.
Registered assistance dogs only.
More details about the Winter Garden here and also on this Youtube clip - approx 7 minutes long.
Option of lunch onsite following the tour.
Free for RHS members during February (Free access (member 1 only for joint memberships) applies Jan & Feb. Otherwise, please see here for admission charges. If we get 10+ paying admission, we may get a discounted entry fee as we have pre-booked.
Full details are available to members only
