Seven Sisters coastal walk: Seaford to Eastbourne – CANCELLED! (will be run at later date)
Paul Conway will lead us today along this classic cliff-top walk – one of the finest coastal walks in England. It affords stunning and famous views of the white cliffs of the Seven Sisters, and the renowned Beachy Head, before ending in the elegant seafront town of Eastbourne. The walk offers several opportunities for a dip in the sea, although it is a long walk and stops will be at the discretion of the walk leader.
Please note that this is a tougher walk than usual in terms of length and ascent. Apart from the section around Cuckmere Haven and the finish along the Eastbourne seafront, the route ascends and descends a continuous series of hills, which form the 'Seven Sisters' themselves, Beachy Head and other cliffs.
It is possible to leave the walk early at Birling Gap. However the summer bus service serving Birling Gap does not run on Saturdays. (Eastbourne Sightseeing provide a half-hourly service, but as the name of the company implies, this is geared towards people on round tours. A one-day hop-on, hop-off pass costs £10, seniors £8). An alternative would be to leave the walk just before Birling Gap and follow a bridleway north to reach the A259 at East Dean, which is served by the frequent Brighton to Eastbourne service. Alternatively, a taxi would need to be called.
