**** 13 mile circular walk ****

A chance to explore some of the countryside and farmland in the northern part of the London Borough of Enfield, just inside the M25 and near to the border with Hertfordshire. Enfield itself dates back to the Domesday book, with its hunting chases being popular in Tudor times. Modern day Enfield is home to suburban housing, three large town centres, three mainline railways, a tube line and a range of commercial and industrial areas, but open green spaces still make up a good proportion of its 31 square miles.

We start in the westerly suburb of Oakwood (built largely as a result of the Piccadilly Line extension in 1933), skirting Trent Park, along the Merryhills Way and the Ridgeway up into Chase Farm, across the railway tracks of the Hertford Loop line near Crews Hill, then into Hillyfields Park and up to the Jacobean manor house of Forty Hall, our lunch stop. We return via the Forty Hall Estate and Whitewebbs Park back over the railway line to the Hadley Road and into the top of Trent Park. After walking to the Lord Grey monument and down to the former Mansion House, homeward connections are available at either Oakwood or Cockfosters tube stations.
