Delights of Richmond and Swaledale
A delightful winter walk from the historic town of Richmond, through meadowland, woods and hillside tracks with many spectacular views including probably the best there is of the Castle. We take in Richmond Falls and walk on the less used south side of the river. Our first climb is up Sleegill to "Boggy Lane" and through grazing pasture looking down on Richmond and Round Howe Woods.
Descending on a well surfaced path through the woods to a footbridge and then crossing the Swale. We then proceed along clear tracks through woodland passing a Memorial to Jane and her friends and reach the banks of the river. Our second short climb is up to Applegarth where we join Wainwright's Coast to Coast path for a good track back into to Richmond with lovely views of the Dale throughout and finally reach the Market Square with Pubs and Cafes for well earned refreshment.
