The Sandstone Trail- Bulkeley Hill & Rawhead
A circular walk in two parts from Higher Burwardsley, climbing to join the Sandstone Trail In Bulkeley Woods and then on to the highest point on the ridge - Raw Head.
The first part, returning along easy lanes, is only 3 miles and apart from an initial climb (with steps), is fairly easy and has wonderful views to both east and west of the Ridge.
The second part, subject to weather conditions, includes the highest point on the Ridge, Raw Head, with even more wonderful views, visits to the site of an ancient copper mine and sand-miners caves. Difficulty: easy to moderate with more steps and some fallen trees to be navigated - an additional 3 miles. Whilst the tracks may be muddy in places there are no fields to be crossed.
