Brecon Beacons Classic
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary year of the Gay Outdoor Club, we climb to the highest point in our area.
This is a fairly strenuous, but very rewarding 9 mile walk to the highest ground in the Brecon Beacons. Apart from two shorter, stiff sections, the rest of the climbing is steady. From the escarpments, there will be fine views of the Taf Fechan valley and the two Neuadd reservoirs, and the walk will reach the summits of Corn Du and Pen y Fan, the highest peaks in Southern Britain, with fine views in all directions, weather permitting! After a steep descent from Pen Y Fan, the walk then continues down into the rocky saddle of Bwlch ar y Fan between the peaks, to follow an ancient Roman track through the beautiful Taf Fechan valley back down to the start.
