A ring with a view: Steyning and Chanctonbury
Join us for an eight-mile circular walk from the historic market town of Steyning to Chanctonbury Ring, one of the best-known landmarks on the South Downs.
After leaving Steyning, the route climbs steadily onto the Downs, with approximately 200 metres of ascent. Our efforts should be rewarded with extensive views across the Sussex countryside, towards the coast and north over the Weald. We will return to Steyning via a mixture of downland paths, woodland and farmland.
This is a moderate walk, mainly using good paths and tracks. However, some lower sections may be muddy, particularly following wet weather. Please wear suitable walking boots and bring clothing appropriate for the conditions.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept under close control and placed on leads near livestock, on roads or whenever requested by the walk leader.
