Allt Yr Esgair from Llangorse lake – part of Spring weekend away 2027
This is the final walk in our Spring weekend away. Llangorse Lake is approx. 15 minute drive from Brecon.
Llangorse Lake is in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Black Mountains. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons.
The Lake is the largest natural lake in South Wales and is renowned for its Pike Fishing. Canoes, stand up paddle boards, rowing boats and pedaloes can all
be hired from Lakeside Caravan & Camping Park, water- skiing is also permitted on the lake,
We will start off with easy walking by the lake and then through some fields and beautiful wild flower meadows leading to the historic farmhouse at Ty Mawr.
The path then follows the main road before going steeply up to Llangasty village hall.
The road then leads to a track that pre-dates the Romans' arrival in Brecon and runs right up to the top of Allt Yr Esgair and the remains of an Iron Age Fort and
the burial place of a chieftain. There should be fabulous views from the top.
We descend from Allt Yr Esgair, returning to the lakeside and walking back to the start
Light refreshments or late lunch in the cafe afterwards.
