This event will start with a talk for around 45 minutes at Aberdulais Falls--see further info below.
This has a very interesting history and is described as, an Industrial Revolution, powered by water since 1584!
You can read a bit about it here.
Then we will do a 5 mile moderate walk from there.
We will explore the nearby Craig Gwladus Country Park which is situated on a wooded hillside offering spectacular views of the lower Neath
Valley.
A lot of industry took place in this area and there are still interesting remains dotted around.
The Park consists of ancient replanted woodland and has a variety of different walking paths, one of which we will use is high up, giving fantastic
views. There is a water feature and various viewpoints high up, looking out over the Neath and surrounding area.
In recent years (to particularly encourage children to explore this area,) “Fairy doors” have been added to the bases of some of the trees.
It's hard not to get caught up in “how many can YOU see?”
On leaving the woodland we will descend to Cadoxton and the murder stone, and then walk back along the canal to Aberdulais exploring the
Aberdulais Basin, where the Tennant canal and the Neath canal, merge.
If weather is good we could extend it slightly to go from the Basin into Tonna woods, a short detour.
