Carnforth and the Wharton Coast
Carnforth and the Wharton Coast
This easy walk of around 4 miles takes in the Morecambe Bay coast near Warton. This has the novelty of an almost lunar landscape (the result of old iron works slag) and the pleasant countryside below Warton Crag. The walk will end back in Carnforth with the option of visiting the Brief Encounter Café on the Carnforth station, made famous by the 1945 film by David Lean. The station clock, that featured in the film is unfortunately no longer there.
Since Warton Crag is only part of the landscape, the entire walk is essentially at sea level but is quite rough in places so boots are advisable and it may be muddy if following rain.
Numbers on this walk are limited to 15.
