Howdimont sands to Craster – Northumberland Coastal Walk
This walk is part of the Northumberland Coastal Weekend, but you can join just for this walk.
A shorter walk for the Sunday of the weekend. The coast is more rocky at this point without the sandy beach we walked on yesterday. The Whin Sill is very much in evidence. We pass the bathing house (now a holiday let with amazing sea views), and Cullernose Point. We follow the coastal path towards Craster fishing village, with views of Dunstanburgh Castle beyond.
Stop for lunch by the tiny harbour in the fishing village of Craster, famous for its smoke house (selling kippers and smoked salmon). Or head to the car park for a hot roll from pipers pitch.
After lunch we return the way we came. Anyone eager for a longer walk can continue to Boulmer about 1.5 miles further along where the Fishing Boat Inn should be open until 5.
